The End (Blog #10)
My biggest takeaway from the semester is that there is no “right way” to use informational technology in the school library. There are so many options and resources available that fit a myriad of situations. Knowing the audience and understanding the needs of the school community were prevalent themes throughout the semester. These are some things we will need to consider:
- What age will we work with?
- What is the makeup of our community?
- What is our budget?
- What teacher collaborators are available?
- What resources are already there?
- What time is available for implementation?
This class is important in that respect because most of us do not yet know what our library situation will be. Being able to explore a variety of materials and resources that are applicable to a multitude of environments has been so helpful.
Here are a few favorite resources I discovered this semester:
- National School Library Standards/ISTE standards crosswalk document
- Common Sense Education Digital Citizenship curriculum
- Digital curation platforms (particularly Wakelet!)
- Cyberbullying.org
- The Compassionate Maker & Renovated Learning blogs
Love this post! I laughed when I read, "The End". :)
